My Perfect Road Trip... |

| >Pack a picnic and drive about an hour and half west of Tallahassee on I-10 to Florida Caverns State Park. Although not as famous or as large as Carlsbad or Mammoth Caverns the caves at Florida Caverns State Park are beautiful. Guided tours are offered Thursday through Monday. The tour of the Florida Caverns takes you through several rooms displaying fantastic formations of stalactites and stalagmites. At one point during the tour the guide turned the lights off and the room glowed!! They also offer night tours on the weekend for people camping in the park. While the caves are the main attraction, you should also save time for canoeing or kayaking along the Chipola River to get a view of the “real” Florida – heron, alligators and beavers are common sights. Canoes can be rented at the park entrance. The park has several picnic areas complete with tables, grills and covered pavilions, as well as, campsites. Florida State Caverns is totally different view of the state! |
